Rasburnat is an advanced recombinant enzyme formulation designed for the rapid prevention and treatment of acute hyperuricemia in pediatric and adult patients with hematologic malignancies (lymphoid and myeloid tumors) with high tumor burden at risk of rapid tumor lysis upon initiation of anti-neoplastic therapy (tumor lysis syndrome — TLS). The active pharmaceutical ingredient is rasburicase at a strength of 1.5 mg supplied as lyophilized powder for solution for infusion with solvent (Rasburicase for Injection 1.5 mg). The product is developed and manufactured by the Indian pharmaceutical corporation Natco Pharma.
Rasburicase is a genetically engineered form of the enzyme urate oxidase (uricase) produced using a genetically modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strain. Urate oxidase catalyzes the enzymatic oxidation of insoluble uric acid into allantoin—a water-soluble, easily excreted metabolic compound. Unlike allopurinol, which only prevents uric acid synthesis, rasburicase actively cleaves already circulating uric acid, ensuring rapid reduction of plasma urate levels and preventing obstructive nephropathy and acute renal failure.
Supplied in an outer carton containing 1 vial of lyophilized powder (1.5 mg) accompanied by a vial/ampoule of solvent. Intended for hospital use under the strict supervision of an oncologist or hematologist via intravenous infusion.
Key Clinical Features and Advantages of Rasburnat 1.5 mg:
- ✅ Rapid Uric Acid Reduction: Normalizes plasma urate levels within the first 4 hours following infusion.
- ✅ Renal Protection: Prevents precipitation of uric acid crystals in renal tubules during tumor lysis syndrome.
- ✅ Active Cleavage: Unlike xanthine oxidase inhibitors, rasburicase degrades circulating uric acid rather than merely blocking synthesis.
- ✅ Precise Dosing Format: The 1.5 mg vial facilitates exact weight-based calculations.
- ✅ Natco Pharma Quality Standards: High-grade biopharmaceutical product manufactured by a leading global oncology specialist.
