Semaglutide vs tirzepatide: two molecules in plain words

If you have opened the news in the last few years, you have probably heard about the injections that made a noise worldwide. The names Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy and Zepbound are familiar even to people far from medicine. Behind those trade names sit not ten different medicines, but two molecules: semaglutide and tirzepatide.

They are not “magic fat burners” and not old-style stimulants. They are peptide molecules that copy the gut’s own satiety signals. This article is not a treatment guide and not a dosing leaflet. Which substance, at what dose and in which form, is decided only by a doctor. We want to explain, calmly, how the molecules differ and which packs in the Unifarm catalogue belong to each.

On the cover two different cartons stand side by side: the Ozempic 1 mg pen (semaglutide, Novo Nordisk) and Mounjaro KwikPen 5 mg (tirzepatide, Lilly). They must not be mixed up: the packs show different substances.

What problem these molecules touched

After a meal the gut releases incretin hormones. They tell the brain “food has arrived, you can stop” and the pancreas “release insulin for this sugar”. In some people with type 2 diabetes or extra weight that link is weak: satiety fades quickly, cravings for fast carbs stay loud, and the cells hear their own insulin poorly.

Willpower is a hard long fight against hunger hormones: the brain reads a calorie gap as a threat. Semaglutide and tirzepatide amplify the natural satiety signal. That is not “hunger off forever”. It is another language the molecule uses with the body. A doctor prescribes it — not an advert.

Semaglutide: one button. Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, Semaxen

Semaglutide is the “first wave” molecule. It resembles our GLP-1 hormone, but it lasts about a week in the blood, not a couple of minutes.

In plain words, people usually describe:

  • a louder satiety signal in the appetite centre, and quieter “food noise”;
  • a slower-emptying stomach, so fullness lasts longer;
  • insulin released when sugar is actually high.

One substance, several cartons. The Ozempic pen is Novo Nordisk semaglutide. Wegovy is the same substance in another Novo Nordisk line. Tablets are still semaglutide, but another form: the catalogue has Rybelsus 7 mg and Semaxen 7. You must not “guess” a tablet in place of a pen. The doctor chooses the form.

The photo shows Rybelsus 7 mg: the same substance as Ozempic, but tablets, not a pen.
Ozempic 1 mg and Semaxen 7 packs: the same semaglutide, a pen and tablets
Beside it: the Ozempic 1 mg pen and Semaxen 7 tablets. Same substance, different plants and forms.

Tirzepatide: two buttons. Mounjaro and Zepbound

Tirzepatide is a different molecule. It is called a dual agonist: it touches GLP-1 receptors and GIP receptors, a second gut hormone. It is not “new Ozempic”. It is a separate substance.

The best-known brand in our catalogue is Mounjaro KwikPen (Lilly). Zepbound in the news is another trade name for the same substance, another line. The pack should still read tirzepatide, not semaglutide.

Why the second hormone, in short: studies describe a stronger combined effect on appetite and metabolism than GLP-1 alone. That is not a reason to switch yourself from Ozempic to Mounjaro. If that decision is ever appropriate, an endocrinologist makes it.

How they differ in practice — from studies, not from a feed

The numbers below are not a promise that “you will get the same” and not a ranking of what to buy. They are what large trials published. For one person the result depends on the dose, the diagnosis, other illnesses and how the body tolerates the molecule.

Point Semaglutide Tirzepatide
Brands people talk about Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, Semaxen Mounjaro, Zepbound
Mechanism GLP-1 GLP-1 + GIP
What trials wrote about weight often about 10–15% from baseline in a year to 18 months often about 15–22%; some papers higher
Sugar in type 2 diabetes lowers HbA1c also lowers it, often more in head-to-head work
Heart semaglutide has a longer base (including SELECT) data are growing; some large studies are still running
Usual form a weekly pen; tablets also exist a weekly pen
In the Unifarm catalogue, for example Ozempic 1 mg, Rybelsus 7, Semaxen 7 Mounjaro KwikPen 5 mg and other KwikPen steps

In head-to-head work tirzepatide more often showed greater weight loss. Semaglutide has been studied longer specifically for heart attacks and strokes. Neither fact means “order the louder name from the internet”.

The other side: the stomach does not adapt overnight

Both molecules slow the stomach. So people often mention nausea, heaviness, heartburn, constipation or loose stool, and tiredness at the start — when calories suddenly drop far below what the body is used to.

Doctors usually raise the dose step by step rather than jumping to a high one. The Ozempic line and the Mounjaro KwikPen line have their own milligram steps: 2.5 mg, 5 mg and further for Mounjaro are different packs in the catalogue, not “one box for every case”. Which step to use is the doctor’s decision. We do not pick a dose by chat.

What short videos rarely say

  • The molecule does not “fix metabolism for good”. If the injections stop and old eating habits return, the weight often returns. It is a window in which a diet is easier to build, not a magic button.
  • Fast weight loss takes muscle as well as fat. Protein and training are a talk with the doctor, not with a feed.
  • You can eat little and still eat empty food. Then vitamins run short. Food still has to be food.

Cold chain, Nova Poshta and a pack from the catalogue

Many semaglutide and tirzepatide pens travel in a cold chain. That is stated on the product page. Collect the parcel at a Nova Poshta branch and take it home at once; do not leave the insulated box in a closed car in the heat.

An Ozempic 1 mg carton on the middle shelf of a refrigerator
The photo shows Ozempic 1 mg on the middle fridge shelf — not the door, not the freezer. The exact place is still read from your own pack.

At home, read the carton again. Tablets such as Rybelsus and Semaxen are often stored differently from a pen. There is no universal “everyone in the fridge”.

At Unifarm we do not swap semaglutide for tirzepatide and we do not offer a “similar cheaper shot”. We bring what is on the prescription, in the factory pack.

A short pack checklist

  • The substance matches the prescription: semaglutide or tirzepatide, not “a similar word”.
  • The milligrams and the form match: pen or tablet.
  • The plant, batch and expiry are readable.
  • The pack is intact, with no extra stickers over the original text.

If a line does not match, do not start the medicine “just in case”. Write to Unifarm support and contact the doctor.

Semaglutide is a familiar molecule with a long research base and several packs: from Ozempic to Rybelsus and Semaxen tablets. Tirzepatide is the next step with two hormone “buttons”; in the catalogue that is chiefly Mounjaro. Which one fits a particular person, given the lab work and other illnesses, is decided by an endocrinologist — not by a blog post.
